sound of oil

2016

Field recordings made in Pembrokeshire, Wales in October 2016 using contact mics, hydrophones, binaural and stereo mics.

Microphones placed in/on/under rockpools, beaches, wire fences, tree boughs, oil refinery barriers, firing range warning signs.

Part of a collaboration with local wildlife expert Mick Brown and artist Abigail Sidebotham through the ‘Sea Empress’ residency project at Manorbier Reading Room, exploring the resonances of the 1996 Sea Empress oil spill on coastal cultures and ecologies, and resulting in a public talk and workshop.
